African Mask Carving Tools
African mask carving tools are similar to an axe, but the blade is set at right angles to the handle. The tool is called an "adze." The blade is curved to follow the arc of the swing, allowing quick removal of wood. Typically it is used to hollow out the back of a mask, carve bowls, stool seats, and anything requiring a smooth recessed surface.

Working with hot metal
Working with hot metal requires tongs and pliers to avoid burns.
